Our Top 5 Tips for a Considered Christmas

As the holidays are looming and the inevitable annual rush occurs as we make sure everything is in order before a well-deserved holiday, we thought it might be best to offer our guidance on some simple tips on slowing things down, for yourself and for the planet. With a little preparation and patience, you can make a difference this year.

  1. Opt for Useful over Flashy Gifts

When choosing gifts, elect for practical. In general, we just don’t need as much stuff, be thoughtful in the selection process and think of items that will last along with being cherished.

  1. Shop Local and Artisan

We will always advocate for supporting smaller, local businesses when you can. They have been hit the hardest this year and this action could be more significant to someone than you think. Plus, you’re way more likely to get something unique for your loved ones this way.

  1. Say NO to plastic and reuse your wrapping paper

Be creative! When wrapping gifts why not use old newspaper, magazines or even make your own. Recycle cards and stay away from all single-use plastic wrappings and bags, as we all know where they end up. A trusty canvas tote is much better for carrying your shopping anyway!

  1. Avoid Express Shipping

If you have managed to plan ahead of time with postage, then we would advise you to try and opt for standard shipping when possible. It may be slower but it has a lesser environmental impact. If you’re running late and need something last minute, opt for a Gift Card that you can email to your recipient. Barely a carbon footprint, and your loved one can choose something to their taste.

  1. Go easy on Christmas Day

We all know that food wastage is a huge environmental problem. While we all love to over-indulge a little on Christmas day, try to be more careful with planning meal sizes and portions to ensure you don’t have too much excess food that ends up in the bin.

Being considerate this season will put into practice how we can make simple, minute changes to how we celebrate and share the festivities. We wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
